Whilst each school maintains its individual identity on the new campus, the co-location enables efficient and inclusive sharing of some spaces reflecting the shared ethos that the best results come from collaboration and partnership.
The Academy is arranged around the striking atrium or ‘heartspace’ that is overlooked by all the curriculum areas and supporting hall, dining, socialising and independent learning functions.
The building’s organisation reflects the Academy’s specialisms in science and construction and includes workshop space with covered external areas. The design blends teaching spaces with “passively supervised” learning/social spaces. These learning/social spaces use a range of furniture, colours and graphics to provide a clear identity for each curriculum area.
