Loxley House

A sensitive restoration of a Grade II listed building

Client: Longden Homes
Construction Cost: £2.5m

Loxley House dates from 1795 and is a Grade II listed building set in the green belt, originally constructed as a Gentleman’s Farmstead in the Pennine Style.

After years of neglect by previous owners, we were commissioned to completely refurbish the house and convert it into 6 apartments and 4 mews houses plus 4 new linked dwellings across the courtyard.

Through the adoption of sensitive design, conservation, preservation and restoration of original details, the project was fully supported by the local planning authority, the local conservation advisory group and English Heritage.

External and internal works to the House were substantial due to the extreme decay which had occurred, but there was a commitment by client and architect to preserve the integral quality of the original building.

The restorative quality also included substantial hard and soft landscaping including the adjacent woodland.
