Rethinking the status and use of Construction and Engineering space was a major driver for the design of Corby Campus: each workshop includes areas for presentation and group working, giving learners a range of learning experiences within each specialist environment. Large areas of glazing then connect these spaces to the major atrium; here a series of “learning pods” provide additional space for self-directed study.
Alongside the technology spaces, the atrium also provides access to hair and beauty salons, a fitness suite and facilities for learners with special educational needs.
Renewable energy is provided via a biomass boiler, photovoltaic cells and solar heated hot water; significant emphasis on natural daylight adds to the building’s sustainable credentials.
In 2013 we were delighted to be appointed as architects for the College’s Wellingborough Campus; completion of this project will see realisation of our Property Strategy, originally conceived in 2002. Good ideas stand the test of time and changing circumstances; this strategy, founded on clear educational and economic principles, will have been delivered under three different funding regimes.
Corby Campus was commended in the 2012 RIBA East Midlands awards.
