It was agreed that the first phase should be a project that had the maximum benefit for the greatest number of learners. Therefore, whilst always looking to improve the coherence and accessibility of a piecemeal site, the first priority was to improve social and support facilities.
Our answer was to provide a new social heart-space whilst relocating the main entrance to a more prominent position.
Infilling two small external courtyards has created a light, spacious internal street linking visitor reception with student services, dining and a refurbished library space. This new space is already proving popular with students and can readily host events from enrolment and open days to exhibitions and shows.
We are continuing to work with the college to remodel or replace the remaining campus as funds become available.
