A sophisticated cooling and heating system allows investigation into the impacts of climate change; research also improves the resistance of African rice and maize to parasites; meanwhile ‘flight-holes’ in the external walls allow the study of native bees.
The use of natural timber cladding, a sedum-planted roof covering and extensive soft landscaping provide a fitting setting.
